Ms. Pierce with her class warm up on the board

North Lake High School is fortunate to welcome Ms. Pierce, a seasoned math teacher with 16 years of experience, to its faculty. Coming from South Albany High School, she brings a strong passion for education and a commitment to helping students succeed.

Ms. Pierce decided to relocate to North Lake to be closer to family from Lebanon. Her sister has lived in the area for a decade, and after visiting frequently, she fell in love with the high desert climate and the community. Initially, she considered applying for the academic advisor position, but when a math teaching role opened up, she knew it was the right fit. Teaching at North Lake has been a significant change from her previous school. South Albany High had 1,600 students, whereas North Lake’s K-12 student body totals around 225. Despite the differences, she has found the students to be more loving and the staff incredibly supportive. She also appreciates how well-maintained the school is, a stark contrast to the limited custodial resources at her former workplace.

One of Ms. Pierce’s primary goals is to ensure that the current seventh graders are on track in math by the end of their ninth-grade year. While the transition has presented challenges, such as assessing students’ skill levels and developing a curriculum, she remains optimistic that with time, everything will become more streamlined.

To foster a positive classroom environment, Ms. Pierce has introduced a “Student of the Week” program for each of her classes. Winners receive a certificate, a rolling chair privilege, and a small reward, making it an exciting incentive for students. She hopes to expand on this initiative in the future and continue making a meaningful impact at North Lake. With her extensive experience, dedication, and innovative teaching methods, Ms. Pierce is a valuable addition to the North Lake community.
