Dear District Leaders, Faculty and School District Families –

The recent driver shortage is on ongoing concern that FIRSTstudent continues to work on behind the scene. There is an ongoing nationwide bus driver shortage that is impacting service for school districts across the country, no matter how big or how small the district may be. FIRSTstudent has been and continues to actively recruit new bus drivers.

Employee/Applicant Update:  We have a former driver that will complete the hours needed to obtain their State certification. Currently this is planned for this weekend! We also have a new applicant that should complete their State certification by the end of next week. There is a strong change that by the end of next week, FIRSTstudent will be running four (4) routes once again. Additionally, there are two additional applicants whom are obtaining their CDL permits. Once that occurs, they will be scheduled for training. FIRSTstudent is providing lodging so these new applicants can train in the Eugene valley where training can be expedited.  If all complete the process, we would have 6 drivers for 5 routes before Dec 31, 2023.

Job Board:  Our recruiting efforts go much further than just a job posting on our website. We post on Facebook, Indeed, Linkedin as well as other job board. For the North Lake SD partnership, FIRSTstudent is now offering a $5,000 Sign-On Bonus through Dec 31, 2023. Details can be found at https://workatfirst.com/posting/school-bus-driver/91036060869370566/ and will also be explained during the hiring interview. Please share this information with your friends and families and encourage them to apply using the previous link.

Communications:  Most of you are aware the Jo Tuttle, former Asst. Location Manager, retired at the end of the 22/23 school year. Jo has been in the school bus industry for many years and was a State certified ODE Trainer, which allowed training to occur locally. Jo is no longer training however, she continues to work-part time helping onboard the new Asst. Location Manager, Glenna Wade, which most of you know from driving a bus for several years. We welcome Glenna to this position!  Glenna’s contact info is [email protected]. Her office number in the bus barn is 541-576-2121 ext 231 and her cell number is 541-977-0626.  Please reach out to her with any questions/concerns you wish to share.

While we understand the frustration, FIRSTstudent is working extremely diligent to improve the level of service we are contracted to provide. We are committed to the partnership with the District and we are committed to you!  You are a priority and you will remain our priority.
